# How to Limit the Amount in One Chart?

## Overview

Limiting the number of entries in charts ensures that only the most important values or segments are displayed. Especially in **donut charts**, you can use the **Limit Amount** feature to group smaller values as a summary segment called **Other**. For other chart types, depending on configuration, the **Top \[x\] Entry/Entries** option is available, so only the top values are shown. These functions help you keep your dashboard readable and focused on the key metrics.

## Accessing the Function

You can set a limit on the number of segments directly from your dashboard:

- For **existing charts:** Click **Actions** on your desired chart and select **Configure**.
- For **new charts:** Use the **Add Element** button at the top, then select your preferred chart type. In the **Configure Chart** dialog, you'll find the limit options.

## Step-by-Step Guide

### Step 1: Choose or Create a Chart

If you want to edit an existing chart, click **Actions** and then **Configure** to open the settings. To create a new chart, click **Add Element**, choose a chart type, and you'll go straight to the configuration dialog.

### Step 2: Set Segment Limit in a Donut Chart

To limit the number of segments in a **donut chart**, select **Donut Chart** in the configuration dialog and scroll to the **Limit Amount** section. Enable **Activate Limit** here. Use the number field **Max. \[X\] Segments** to decide how many segments to display. Any values beyond the limit can be grouped by enabling the **Show "Other"** option, keeping the chart clear and concise.

### Step 3: Use “Top \[x\] Entry/Entries” Limit for Other Chart Types

For many other chart types, the **Top \[x\] Entry/Entries** option is available. You'll find it in the **Configure Chart** dialog under **Limit Amount**. Enable **Activate Limit** to turn on the restriction, and use the number field to set how many top results to display (such as **Top 10**). The sorting order depends on the chosen metric.

For tables with multiple selected metrics at the same time, the limit feature is disabled for technical reasons. Some special charts (like **word clouds**) have a fixed limit.

### Step 4: Save and Review Your Changes

After setting your options, save your configuration with **Save** or **Update**. The chart will update and show the number of entries or the "Other" segment according to your selections.

If you request too much data at once, this may cause a loading delay or empty result message. In such cases, try setting a stricter limit or adjusting filters.

## Settings & Options

**Quick Chart Options:** Using the **Actions** menu on a chart, you can also **Rename**, **Duplicate**, **Delete**, and adjust the **Date Range**. These don't affect the limit directly, but help you organize and test different chart versions.

## Limitations & Special Notes

- **Chart dependency:** The combined **Limit Amount** and **Show "Other"** options are only available for **donut charts**. **Top \[x\] Entry/Entries** are only offered where visible in the dialog.
- **Tables with multiple KPIs:** The limit option is disabled if several metrics are selected.
- **Agency accounts:** As long as no client is selected, you cannot set a limit.
- **Performance:** Without a limit and with large data sets, dashboards can become slow or cluttered.

## Tips & Best Practices

- In **donut charts**, start with a limit of 5 to 10 segments for better clarity.
- Enable **Show "Other"** to group minor values that are usually not relevant by themselves.
- For rankings, use the **Top \[x\] Entry/Entries** option to focus on the most important results.
- Adjust the **Date Range** if too many or too few entries are displayed.
- Test different variants by **duplicating** a chart and comparing limits.
